Happy New Year!!! Can you believe it's 2019?!??! Time
flies. I remember a year ago looking at 2018 and thinking "wow, this is
the only full year that I'll get to be a missionary!" It's been an
amazing year. I'm grateful for all of the memories and miracles I've
been able to witness! AND we're starting off the new year with a BIG
miracle! Tonight Tiana and Treasure are going to be
BAPTIZED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!! I could not be more
excited for them😃 I have prayed, pleaded, and fasted that I might be
able to help someone to this point. I'm so grateful that Heavenly Father
has given me the opportunity to feel a portion of His love for those
two girls, and to help prepare them to make this special covenant with
Him. I am so proud of Tiana and Treasure, and I can't even imagine how
proud Heavenly Father is of them. They are precious daughters of God.
One of the most rewarding things for me has been seeing their hearts
change. They have such a desire to be baptized now, whereas initially
they were afraid and unfamiliar with it. I know that everything happens
in God's time and in His way. I feel so privileged to have been an
instrument in God's hands to help Tiana and Treasure, and I know they'll
be special to me forever now! I'll send pictures next week and more
details on the baptismal service.
So New Year's
in Laie was craaazy. These people love their fireworks, and I'm pretty
sure they prepare for New Years year round by shooting off fireworks at
random all throughout the year haha. New Year's eve it took me about 15
minutes to fall asleep, and then a miracle happened... I didn't wake up
from the fireworks ONCE, not even at midnight when my padmates reported
that it sounded like a war was going on outside of our house. I thought
for sure I'd wake up and be able to watch some fireworks at midnight,
but miraculously I snoozed right through them all. Haha!
We
had a New Years party as a VC. We had a BBQ dinner all together (they
assigned my district to bring fruits and veggies... I guess they think
I've rubbed off on my district and they've become health gurus😉, after
which we watched The Other Side of Heaven. It was a fun New Years
celebration!

I love Sis Lee from Korea! You can't even see her eyes... so cute😊

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! We had some bubbly (aka sparling apple juice) as a pad.
The VC got 3 minivans this week,
so our whole district piled in a minivan for grocery shopping today, and
also drove all together to Bonzai Bowls in Haleiwa for acai
bowls/smoothies. It was so fun to get to be all together! It felt like a
family road trip:) We'll get to drive down to Kaneohe as a district on
next week's pday in the minivan. Oh, also, there are a bunch of missions
where sisters are now approved to purchase and wear dress pants. Cool,
huh? Apparently it's because of mosquitos, among other things.

This
week I had the privilege of going on two exchanges, one with Sister
Geertsen, and the other with Sister Roney. Both were fantastic! Sister
Roney's was yesterday, and we saw so many miracles as we gave it our
all! It was pretty incredible. It was one of those days where, at the
end of the day you just look at each other and you know that you gave it
all you had that day:) Those days are so fulfilling! One thing I love
about Sister Roney is that she is just so optimistic. Nothing can rain
on her parade. She is also extremely meek, and just wanted to learn as
much as possible on our exchange. We learned a lot together about how
God helps us to reach meaningful, inspired goals. We also learned that
there really is NO satisfactory substitute in missionary work for WORK.
As soon as you get lost in the work, you'll find joy. I love being a
missionary. I love the people I serve here. Most importantly, I love the
Lord!
Exchange with Sister Geertsen on Saturday! Super fun😀 She's from Logan and went to USU.

A neat person we talked with online this week was Tadhg from the UK. He came on chat on mormon.org
asking to know more about the church because he's going to be attending
school there soon. He said that he's been thinking about the purpose of
life a lot lately too. He said in his culture, a woman's purpose is to
rear children, and a man's is to provide for his family. Tadhg said that
those things are good and all, but he said he feels there's got to be
more to life than just working and being a 'good' person. We told him
there absolutely is a greater purpose, and offered to share more. We
explained that the Book of Mormon helps us understand the purpose of
life more clearly. Hopefully we'll be having a skype lesson with him
soon.
Sister Spencer and I met a neat
Hungarian couple on Monday. They walked onto the temple grounds, so we
approached them and offered to take a photo for them. They politely
declined. They at first appeared to be a somewhat 'typical' European
couple who stops to take a photo, just wants to walk around on their
own, and then leaves. BUT I was determined to not just let them wander
around and leave... so I said "we actually have something in the
Visitors' Center in Hungarian, can we show it to you?" They hesitated
but agreed. 20 Minutes later they walked out of the VC having listened
to the Christus narration in Hungarian, read a few passages of the Book
of Mormon in Hungarian, and agreed to meet with missionaries when they
return home from vacation. It was a New Year's eve miracle! I know that
if they sincerely read, ponder, and pray about the Book of Mormon's
message, they'll know deep in their heart that it's true😊
We had our last ever 3 hour church block on Sunday #RIP3HourChurch. I'm excited for the Come, Follow Me curriculum.
Well,
what a week! It was a good one. I hope you all know how much I love
you! I pray for you every day. Keep smiling, and love the pace of life
God has given you this week.
Aloha,
Sister Flake
